Report on the seminar with Paddy Fanning
After preparing the ranch for about two weeks, the day of the clinic, Saturday, 01/04/2025, has finally arrived.
Paddy Fanning already flew in thursday evening, 01/02/2025 to have a look at the conditions and to prepare a little something for the clinic and to be rested, when meeting the participants Saturday.
The clinic started Saturday morning at 8.30 am with a meeting in the heated Saloon. Outside we had snow on the ground and it was freezing cold.
Dogs and handlers of all levels took part. From absolute beginners to more experienced teams.
First we had a short introduction and presentation session in the heated Saloon, after which we started working the dogs outside. The morning session was about determining the current status of each team and discussing the first approach and trying and implementing the first training approaches and ideas of Paddy.
After lunch (white sausages with pretzels) some more training, and explanation in the cold. All participants and spectators listened intently to Paddy as he explained his assessment and approach to each dog and handler.
In the evening, most of the participants, together with Paddy Fanning, went to Wiegman's Bar & Grill for dinner together.
Sunday, unfortunately the weather god meant it a little too good with rain and after working the first teams outside, we moved to the inside riding arena. After already seeing progress on the first day, on the second day we noticed significant improvements in cooperation between man and dog.
After lunch with a hot goulash soup, we had the final training sessions of each team, including Paddy, everyone gave their all. By the end of the day, everyone was exhausted, but happy. Everyone was able to develop their training and improve their skills.
Summary: The clinic was cold, wet, but still just great!! Everyone had fun, no one went home hungry and, as far as I heard, all the participants were super happy! A big thank you goes to my better half and to Kerstin, who both had my back with food, drinks and Saloon, as well as provided us some great photos from the clinic!!
